Push Week
A 5-day carnival of forward motion
What if writing doesn’t have to be a slog?
It’s so easy to approach writing as a task, a chore, a thing to get through. And sometimes it’s true — sometimes writing is just hard work. But what else is true? And what happens when we step in with a different expectation?
In this 5-day writing push, we’ll centre momentum, community, and ease in the writing process. We’ll get comfortable, take lots of breaks, and write, write, write.
Writers can arrive with any project — a thesis, a eulogy, a poetry collection — and we’ll move our work forward together with love, connection, and a little bit of grit.
-
Want to sink deeper into their creative process.
Want to loosen up the idea that writing has to be hard all the time.
Have some kind of writing goal or project and don’t need a ton of guidance to get going.
Are hungry to connect to their writing, voice and flow.
Want their writing to be swept forward by a guided process and community.
Feel aligned with our fundamental beliefs.
-
Critique on your writing. This is a largely self-guided process.
Instructions on “how to write.” Rather, we’ll create a rich writing experience to help you connect to what you already know in your bones.
Chances to share your work with others — check out our small group workshops or our coaching packages for that.
Details:
The next Push Week will be announced soon.
This is a choose-your-own-adventure week with loads of sessions to find your way through at your own pace. Each day will be peppered with sessions to get your writing flowing.
All of the sessions are optional — we know many of you have busy schedules. Come to what you can, let go of what you can’t, and let the momentum drive your creativity through the week.
If regular internet access is a barrier, contact us to get a call in number for our sessions.
Schedule:
Morning intention-setting:
Let’s start here. Every morning, we’ll meet online to settle in, share a poem, connect to what we want from our writing today, and get started. We’ll be offering two identical 30 minute sessions each day — you can choose to join us at either 8am or 11am. (Or both if you’re a keener.)
Sanctuary time:
The sun is high and the vibes are flowing. We’ll have a 1-hour sanctuary session (loosely facilitated quiet writing time) at 1pm each day to sink into our work and go.
We’ll also have a longer 2-hour evening sanctuary session on Wednesday at 7pm.
Office hour:
Let’s talk writing! On Tuesday from 3–4pm, we'll be around for anyone who wants to ask us a question about writing process, or share some wisdom from their week so far. This is a casual chance to nerd out with the facilitators and other participants about the reason we’re all here — writing.
Social hour:
We just like hanging out. On Thursday from 3–4 pm, you can come spend some social time with us and each other. We’ll set up the Zoom with different “rooms” for small group chats — for example you can pop into "the library" to talk about books, or "the study" to talk about writing software.
Evening exploration sessions:
No Firefly class would be complete without a workshop or two. On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 7pm, we’ll host exploration sessions to take our work deeper. These will be playful and productive guided writing on a theme for 60 minutes, followed by 60 minutes of sanctuary time to keep writing in the quiet company of others.
Monday is for starting. Sophia will lead us in generative writing session. Come for fun, short, lower-the-bar writes to get our pens flying.
Tuesday is for exploring. Kim will keep the party going with a session to look at writing process, exploring what helps our writing to flow, what holds us back, and where we are in the life cycle of our work.
Wednesday is for writing. No exploration session tonight! We’ll have lots started by now, so we’ll go right into quiet writing time.
Thursday is for playing. Asifa will shake us out of any self-imposed seriousness, bringing silly, joyful exercises to reconnect us to our innate playfulness.
Friday is for celebrating. Friday is our Push Week Open Mic Night! Read on…
Open mic:
Time to show off. On the final Friday evening session, from 7–9pm, we’ll celebrate what we’ve made and discovered with an online open mic night. Come to share what you wrote this week, or just clap up a storm from your Zoom rectangle. We’ll be there to guide the evening with delight and celebration.
And to take it forward:
To keep all that momentum rolling, all participants will receive a membership in Morning Coffee Sessions for free in November. If you’re already subscribed, you can gift your free month to a friend.

The fee for this week is on a sliding scale of $95-$195. If you’re unemployed, or earning minimum wage, we encourage you to pay the lowest amount. If you have a comfortable income, equity and savings, we suggest a higher fee. You’re in charge.
If you don’t have a credit card, or can’t currently afford the base fee, let us know, we’ll gladly find a way to make it work.
