Joy Ride

Looking for a pack of pals for a writing adventure?

Let’s go.

This workshop is designed as a joy ride of support and productivity to help writers rocket something forward this fall. It’s for folks who want just enough community and accountability to keep their tanks fuelled and the tunes blaring.

November has become a big writing month for many of us. The days are short, the fall is underway and the winter hasn’t arrived. Joy Ride is a new experiment, blending our popular Push Week program into a longer small group process, based on relationship, connection and soulful forward motion.

Here’s how it works:

This workshop has three core components.

  1. Six workshops in a small group of eight, from October to December. These will be a chance to ground into and radically move forward on a writing project. These sessions will provide lots of encouragement, momentum, and space to just… write.

  2. Our entire Push Week program (fall dates 2025 tbd), which includes 4 sessions daily, designed to rocket a project forward, and an open mic at the end.

  3. A 30-minute coaching session with the facilitator Kim to move things forward at any point in the process.

This program dovetails perfectly with National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), which is not a Firefly program, but may be a fun accompaniment for those who want an extra push.

Come with any project, any type of writing, and let's see what we can each make on our own, but together.

As with all Firefly workshops, we’ll laugh lots, listen close, lean in, and support each other deeply along the way. Our workshops are deliberately kept small (this one is capped at 8 participants) to make sure everyone’s work gets the time and space it needs.

    • Want to sink deeper into their creative process for a prolonged period of time.

    • Have some kind of writing goal or project and don’t need a ton of guidance to get going.

    • Are hungry to connect to their writing, voice, and flow.

    • Want their writing to be swept forward by a guided process and community.

    • Feel aligned with our fundamental beliefs.

    • Writing tools and practices to carry you forward.

    • Countless ideas about where your writing might go next.

    • Writing peers whose work you are invested in.

    • Creative momentum throughout the year.

    • Critique or competition. Our feedback on writing will be aimed entirely on helping each participant recognize their own gifts.

    • Strict rules on “how to write.” We’ll work on developing your writing skills but we don’t subscribe to the idea that there’s one way to create powerful work.

    • Pressure to write things you don’t want to write. We go where the joy is.

    • Continual chances to share your work with others — there will be sharing in the last session and a few small shares throughout.
