Submit Your Work

Are you longing for a real deadline?

A lot of writers (us included) need the push of a deadline to finish our work and send it out into the world. But finding the right one, and getting ourselves organized to select, polish, and submit something — oh dear. That’s where things get tangled.

In this workshop, we’ll use the momentum of a group, and a little structure, to select the work that we’re most excited to let go of, find the right place(s) to submit to, and then to polish and hit send together.

Here’s how it works:

In the first two weeks, we’ll talk about what we want from this process, and search out the pieces that feel ready, or close to ready, for submission. Then we’ll look for the journals, magazines, submission calls, contests, anthologies, and any other places that might be a perfect fit.

In the next three sessions, we’ll polish our own work, exploring editing techniques and sharing our work with the group for feedback.

In week six, we’ll do our final polish, make sure we’ve matched all those pesky submission requirements, and all hit “submit” together. Week seven, we’ll share and celebrate all that we’ve made, whether or not it “wins.”
