Breakout A:
Sophie Kohn
Comedian and Founding Editor of CBC Comedy, Giggle Guru
I believe strongly that EVERYONE is funny! It's just often buried under layers of self-doubt, social conditioning, and other things in the way. I'd love to tell you what actually makes a good joke (it's counterintuitive!), how to identify your particular sense of humour, how different types of jokes are structured, and how to weave them into your writing. I’ll take you through some short writing prompts to help you develop your humour writing muscle. This workshop would apply most directly to creative nonfiction and memoir writing, but could also be useful for fiction writers.
Mikaela W.
Writer, Scrivener Savant
Scrivener is a drafting tool that allows writers to draft in creative and non-linear ways! It has a number of helpful features that allow you to keep your focus on your project. I’ll show you how to keep your research, character sheets, and world-building information right inside your project, while emphasizing that only a very small portion of product knowledge is needed to use Scrivener effectively. I’ll also demonstrate some creative ways I use it for outlining and housing inspiration images, quotes, and more.
Kelly Wilk
Writer, Invisible Disability Champion
Living as a neurodivergent person or someone with an invisible disability can be difficult to dig into. It can also be very easy to relate to, and a relief to talk about with other people. Especially if writing is your superpower!
Kiran Fatima
Tarot and Oracle Card Connoisseur
Tarot Guided Writing is a program I developed to help people use Tarot cards and Oracle cards as powerful writing tools and an infinite resource for ideas. Using a combination of timeless myths, symbols and archetypes, harmonizing with modern interpretations and reframing within the context of our shared and lived experiences, I like to help aspiring writers embrace and express their spectrum of ideas. I think everyone has insights. Tarot and Oracle cards contain tools to help bring yours out, to help light the path for you and for others.

Stephanie Needham
Writer, Journaling Genius
These are tender times - mental health is vulnerable in our society, in our world. Journaling has been an anchor for me for over thirty years. A relationship with a journal and the process of journaling can be a healing space, and from this, I consider it part of our public health. Research in neuroscience studies highlight that journaling has impactful effects on our physical brains, harmonizing emotional coherence (regulation) and cognitive functioning and thriveability.
Brandy Barron
Children’s Book Author, Song Spoof Specialist
Our ears love lyrics and certain vocal cadence - let’s chat about actual tools to approach rhyme in any format. Will the constraint of rhyme push your creativity in wild and unexpected directions?
