The Art of Revision
A 6-session workshop for learning and practicing the process of revising our work
You finished your first draft! Amazing.
Now you’re asking… what next? How do you transform it into a polished, finished manuscript?
There’s no one answer, but there are lots of ways in. Over the course of six sessions, we’ll explore tools, approaches, and theories — as well as our intuitions — to create a revision plan that pulls together everything our projects need, in a way that is distinctly ours and utterly doable.
You’ll leave this workshop with a plan, tools to execute that plan, and a lot of progress as you travel forward to your full finished draft.
Here’s how it works:
In each session, we’ll open up a new approach to revision, starting big, with questions around themes and structure and then narrowing in on scenes and finally line editing.
We’ll be learning tools and using them right away, rolling up our sleeves, and trying out new ways to bring our work to its highest calling.
We’ll also explore how to connect to our original passion behind the work, and how to be less alone with the editing process.
As well as the group sessions, participants will have a one-on-one session with the facilitator to work through challenges, get more clarity, and keep the momentum going.
-
Have a completed first draft of a novel, novella, memoir, collection of short stories or essays, or collection of poems.
Know their manuscript needs work but don’t know where to start or how to keep going.
Are ready to spend time on their manuscript in between sessions.
Thrive in small, cozy groups. (This workshop will never have more than 8 participants.)
Feel aligned with our fundamental beliefs.
-
A summary or synopsis of your manuscript, written by you.
Tools to start and complete the revision of this project and any other project.
A revision plan that you created and have already started.
Creative courage, possibility, and renewed energy for the revision process.
Writing peers whose work you are invested in.
A 1-on-1 coaching session with your facilitator to bring all your questions, fears, and loose ends.
The option to join our Revision Club once we have enough participants to run this — this will be a group of participants, who have all completed this workshop, working through revising their manuscripts.
-
Harsh critique or competition. We’re all about the love.
Strict rules on what your manuscript should look like. While we will provide a variety of guidelines and options, we believe there are countless ways to tell a story.
Someone to read through your whole manuscript. We’ll be working on it together.
