Keep Your Pen Moving Part 2
A follow up for our popular Keep Your Pen Moving workshop.
Not done with us yet?
So… You took our Keep Your Pen Moving class and you had a lot of fun. You discovered new possibilities in your voice, new stories you can tell and new colours of joy in the creative process. But then it ended. Now what?
Here’s how it works:
For 9 weeks, a small group of seven writers who have completed Keep Your Pen Moving Part 1 will gather at our studio to tread deeper into their writing lives. Building on the momentum of Keep Your Pen Moving Part 1, we’ll play more wildly, remember more vividly, and make those characters even weirder and more believable than they were before. We’ll also explore a little plot theory so that we can give our personal or fictional stories structure, power and life. Between classes we’ll go home with experiments on how to bring more creativity into our lives outside of the workshop. As well as all (aaaaall) the writing we do together in person, everyone will have the chance to bring in two pieces from home for deeper group feedback during the nine weeks.
Bring your questions, your fears and your love for all that writing can do for you, and we’ll fill in the rest.
This workshop is ideal for people who:
Love making time to write and want to do it even more.
Have taken our Keep Your Pen Moving Part 1 workshop.
Are excited by the idea of bringing polished work in from home to workshop with the group.
Want to engage meaningfully with other people’s work and play an active role in helping them move towards their goals.
Love the idea of a weekly creative date with a small group of others.
Have an open mind and heart to all the possibilities of going deeper with creative expression.
Are interested in exploring their own lives as writing material and sharing some of what comes up. (We tend to get a little personal.)
Thrive in small, cozy groups — this class will never have more than 7 participants.
Love a good homemade cookie.
You can expect to leave the workshop with:
A clearer idea of what you want to write about most, and momentum on that path.
Lots of new, exciting work.
A renewed sense of your writing voice and your unique gifts as a writer.
Freshly edited older work.
Several pieces of work that have received in depth feedback from the class.
New friends who are on the same path.
This workshop won’t be ideal if you:
Aren’t enjoying the process of writing, but rather find it onerous.
Are looking for support on finding an agent or a publisher.
Don’t have time to write and play between classes.
Believe that work requires a critical environment in order to thrive.

What people are saying:
Keep Your Pen Moving Part 2 was an incredible course. Having taken a few courses at Firefly, I was looking for something that would push me further and enable me to go deeper with a community. This course did exactly that. I left feeling energized, inspired and grateful!
This was my second workshop with Firefly and I absolutely loved it. I take these workshops because I want encouragement and direction and a group of like-minded people who are just as curious and quirky and in need of a boost as I am. And I always find that with Firefly. I got lots of great food for future famines and am looking forward to my next workshop!

Our facilitator did a great job fostering such warm community spirit around the table. I loved having the chance to dig a little deeper and workshop my writing with the group.
